Lately everything’s been coming along in bits and pieces. Little digestible bites to enjoy and take in: from the arrival of a package, where an unknown object is cocooned in the familiar brown, to a stolen lunch with a friend on a Monday afternoon at a new Whole Foods where industrial barrels of olive oil are ready to be dispensed into tiny plastic bottles.

All the little scenes are ripe for capturing on my handy iphone — that trusty co-pilot for all my adventures.  This is especially true when the massive DSLR really can’t come traipsing through backyard leaves to reach first fall bonfires or through the rusty crevices of a crumbling mansion as Chris and I search for hidden, treasured furniture.

The first fall bonfire in humid 80 degree DC September weather: flannel shirts, pumpkin-flavored snacks, raiding the snacks after all the guests have gone, the sharing of Spotify playlists,  and hanging in real yards where people have actual neighbors with kids and ABC-worthy drama.

I was moderately neglected this weekend because my auntie and Quick Cook Rice BFF came to visit! So basically I was happy to see her but really didn’t get as much attention as I normally require.

The adults had a fire and a giant feast and drank something from a round thing I like to chase. My daddy calls it beer. I call it a toy. He said they aren’t that different, that beer is a toy for adults. I believe him because the more they play with beer, they happier they get. And that’s pretty much how feel about my toys and even trinkets I find in the trash.

This week’s Sunday was no fun. I didn’t get any treats or special cookies accidentally dropped on the floor. I did get kale, but man, that’s gross. I seriously don’t understand that obsession.

The writer of this blog (no cute name for her because she ignored me yesterday) spent the entire day pulling everything out of the kitchen cabinets. She ran around cursing something called ants and throwing out bottles of bottles of sticky sweet deliciousness just because they were full of ants. I don’t understand. Continue reading »
